Spirit of the Tropics

Mt Uncle Distillery

Nestled in the foothills of a banana plantation just outside Mareeba, an hour and a bit north west of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland…

Mt. Uncle Distillery is a liquor-lover’s shining beacon at the start of Australia’s Great Dividing Range. Named after the mountain it lies under (pioneer John Atherton named it after his uncle, and for good measure the mountain beside it, Mt. Aunty, just so the big guy didn’t get lonely), the 800 acre property is situated on some of the most fertile soil in Australia.

Here, a variety of fresh tropical fruit and Australian native botanicals are magically turned into unique liqueurs and spirits, while Queensland sugarcane and barley is used for rum and whisky production. Lucky for you, all can be sampled at the distillery, open for tours and tastings seven days a week.

Mt Uncle has built an impeccable and unrivalled reputation in producing award-winning premium spirits and liqueurs still with a huge emphasis on using as many local and national Australian ingredients as possible.

We are North Queensland’s first distillery and one of the premier attractions on the Atherton Tablelands.

We've spent years caring for the land where we source some of our ingredients and generations refining our recipes and distilling processes so you can taste nature's finest in every drop.

We came here specifically to taste the gin after trying some at a restaurant in Cairns. We weren't disappointed
